Manager, Industry Relations, Bombardier Aerospace
Leo Knaapen is the manager, industry relations, for Bombardier Aerospace. In this role, he is responsible for strengthening the role of Bombardier across the international civil aviation industry by engaging, supporting and guiding industry associations, as well as regulatory and government agencies, on multiple levels. This includes ensuring Bombardier involvement in working groups and committees, speaker opportunities, events and sponsorships.
He joined Bombardier Aerospace in 1989, working primarily in internal communications and editorial support. In 1992, Mr. Knaapen was named senior advisor and spokesperson for all products and services produced by Bombardier’s Canadair division. In 1997, he was appointed Bombardier Business Aircraft communications manager, with worldwide responsibility for media and public relations for the Bombardier Learjet, Challenger and Global business jet families, pre-owned aircraft, Skyjet International charter, special mission aircraft, and customer support and services.
Since May 2007, he has successfully increased Bombardier’s involvement in business and general aviation. His mandate was expanded in January 2011 to represent all of Bombardier Aerospace including commercial aircraft, customer services and specialized aircraft.
Born in the Hague, Netherlands in 1955, Mr. Knaapen is proficient in Dutch and French. He graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in June 1979.
