Kentucky Gov. Steven Beshear has again expressed his support for aviation by declaring July “Aviation Appreciation Month.” This month’s declaration is the second statewide recognition of general aviation (GA) in Kentucky, with the first coming in July 2010.
“Aviation employs thousands of Kentuckians and accounts for $1.75 billion in economic activity, and aerospace led Kentucky exports in 2013 with $5.6 billion,” the proclamation states. Beshear also singled out hospitals, commercial businesses, multiple large cargo facilities and state tourism as enterprises that benefit from aviation.
“General aviation aircraft support a variety of services vital to Kentucky business and communities, including business mobility and economic opportunity, agricultural spraying, police and fire protection, access to medical treatment, disaster relief and resources critical to those in isolated areas,” said the proclamation.
Kentucky is home to 59 publicly owned airports and 112 private airstrips.

“Kentucky has a fine system of GA airports that makes it possible for businesses to reach smaller communities with products and services,” said Greg Voos, NBAA’s Southeast regional representative. “We appreciate Gov. Beshear’s recognition of the value of business flying value in Kentucky.”
All 50 states have officially recognized the value of GA, including business aviation, through proclamations incorporating themes established through the No Plane No Gain advocacy campaign. Launched in 2009 jointly by NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, No Plane No Gain educates the public on the importance of business aviation to the United States and its communities, companies and citizens.
