NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
NBAA2009: Demonstrating the Value of Business Aviation, Next Week in Orlando
Nowhere will the reach, diversity and economic impact of the business aviation industry be more in evidence than at the NBAA 62nd Annual Meeting & Convention (NBAA2009), to be held next week from October 20 to 22 in Orlando, FL. Now more than ever, NBAA's Convention will be the event where business leaders, government officials, manufacturers, flight department personnel, single-pilot operations and others involved in business aviation will be on hand to discuss the latest news and trends affecting the industry. Highlights will include appearances by keynote speakers such as FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt, Forbes publisher Rich Karlgaard, and golf legend and businessman Arnold Palmer. NBAA Members qualify for discounted registration rates and are encouraged to register online in advance to save money and time. To register and learn more, visit:

Machinists Union President, Industry Advocate Buffenbarger to Speak at NBAA2009
Joining Babbit, Karlgaard and Palmer as speakers at NBAA2009's Opening General Session on October 20 will be Tom Buffenbarger, international president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), among the largest industrial trade unions in North America. IAM represents nearly 700,000 active and retired members in dozens of industries, including workers employed in business aircraft manufacture. In his capacity as president, Buffenbarger often relies on a Learjet 60 to meet his transportation needs. He will speak not only to the value of the business aviation manufacturing sector to the nation's economic interest, but also to the essential role IAM's airplane serves in increasing the union's effectiveness and decreasing its costs. NBAA Welcomes Report Showing Business Aviation's Value
NBAA recently welcomed a new study showing that companies using business aviation outperform those that do not. The study concludes: "Business aircraft users had a dominant presence, on average of 92 percent, among the most innovative, most admired, best brands and best places to work, as well as dominating the list of companies strongest in corporate governance and responsibility." NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen commented, "This study shows what the people in the business aviation community have always known: a business airplane is the sign of a well-managed company, because business aviation helps companies of all sizes be more efficient, productive and competitive." NBAA2009 Features New Programming for Light Business Airplane Users
A primary focus for the NBAA Convention this year will be a new Light Business Airplane (LBA) Conference featuring programming for entrepreneurs who rely on a light general aviation airplane for business. The conference is designed to help concept buyers understand the considerations involved in purchasing a new airplane. It includes sessions to help NBAA Members quantify and communicate the value of their business aircraft, and a first-ever Single Pilot Safety Standdown sponsored by Cessna Aircraft Company will address fatigue countermeasures, airmanship, cockpit resource management, pilot health, icing and more. The Civil Air Patrol is a federally supported non-profit that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The organization utilizes general aviation aircraft for rescue missions, and its volunteers have been involved in disaster-relief efforts that include the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina and other missions.
