WASHINGTON, DC, December 5, 2007 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today welcomed news that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) will serve as the new ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Aviation.

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over a wide range of aviation issues including the multi-year reauthorization process for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), currently under consideration by Congress and focused on transforming the nation's aviation system to one based on "Next Generation" satellite technology.

"We are pleased to learn that Senator Hutchison will be serving as the ranking member of the Aviation Subcommittee," said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. "The senator is very knowledgeable on aviation issues and has an in-depth understanding of general aviation. NBAA looks forward to working with Senator Hutchison and the other subcommittee members to advance our aviation system, which is the world's largest, safest and most efficient."

Hutchison previously held a leadership post on the subcommittee, serving as its chair from 2001 to 2002. She will officially become ranking member of the Aviation Subcommittee following the retirement of the Subcommittee's current ranking member, Trent Lott (R-MI), who has announced that he will resign from the Senate by year's end.
