Bolen Lauds Member Support on User Fee Vote, Says
Fight Is Far From Over
In a letter sent today, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen thanked all NBAA Members for their help in the fight to strike a per-flight user fee from a
Senate Committee's FAA funding proposal. A measure opposing the fee, introduced by Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL) and John Sununu (R-NH), came within
one vote of succeeding in a committee vote last Wednesday. The tally on the anti-user fee amendment was tied 11-11 before a final vote was cast. "The
committee's vote was just the beginning of what will be a long battle, as a number of congressional committees weigh in on FAA funding issues,"
Bolen's letter states. "Even though we didn't quite land a knockout blow to user fees with last week's vote, many other opportunities to do so will
arise as the FAA reauthorization moves through Congress." Review the letter at:

Connecticut Business Aviation Group Helps Defeat Tax Bill
The Connecticut legislature recently considered changing its policy on tax exemptions for the purchase of certain goods and services, among which is
the exemption on sales tax for aircraft parts and maintenance. The Connecticut Business Aviation Group (CTBAG) took the initiative to write and
telephone state legislators, petitioning them to vote against Bill SB 1385, which would have changed the tax exemption policy. As a result of CTBAG's
involvement, the bill was defeated. CTBAG members cited negative economic impact as the rationale of the defeat of the bill, both for the aviation
community and the state. For more information, contact NBAA's Dean Saucier at dsaucier@nbaa.org.
