FAA Extends A008 Inspection Deadline
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has extended the compliance date for Part 135 operator special emphasis inspections for operational control
(OpSpec A008). While the majority of Part 135 operators have had this inspection, additional time was required for FAA principal operations
inspectors (POIs) to meet with every Part 135 operator. The new deadline for inspections to be completed is February 29, as communicated on December
8, 2007, by FAA Headquarters personnel to each FAA regional division manager for distribution to FAA flight standards district office (FSDO)
managers. POIs may obtain a copy of this extension notice through their FSDO manager. NBAA has made available on its web site numerous operational
control resources to assist Part 135 operators in preparation for this special emphasis inspection. For more information, visit:

RNAV SIDs to Be Implemented at Salt Lake City International
On January 17, six area navigation (RNAV) standard instrument departures (SIDs) will be implemented at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).
The new procedures include the EDETH ONE, LEETZ ONE, NSIGN ONE, PECOP ONE, TWIN FALLS ONE and WEVIC ONE RNAV departures. Salt Lake City Tower
requires aircraft to maintain 230 knots after liftoff in order to avoid compression of aircraft on the SIDs until directed to accelerate by the
controller. Salt Lake City approach also has requested flightcrews to use on initial contact the phraseology "...with you out of (current altitude)
on (SID name) departure for (cleared altitude)," in order to communicate compliance with the altitude restrictions of the departure procedure being
flown. For more information, contact NBAA's Operations Service Group at info@nbaa.org.

DFW Resumes Use of RNAV SIDs Off the Ground
On January 10, Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) resumed use of the RNAV SIDs, where pilots are expected to engage the lateral
navigation/navigation immediately after departure, as no headings will be assigned by the tower. Due to some RNAV track deviations that occurred in
December, DFW Tower has been assigning initial departure headings to aircraft assigned RNAV SIDs, and departure controllers then vectored the
aircraft to join the SID. It has been confirmed that these track deviations were caused by human error, and the database has been verified as being
correct. Flightcrews must ensure that the appropriate SID, departure runway and transition are appropriately loaded into the aircraft's flight
management system when flying RNAV SIDs. For more information, contact NBAA's Operations Service Group at info@nbaa.org.
