BUSINESS AVIATION NEWS & ISSUES
FAA's Hudson River Plan Appears Sensible and Workable
The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) plan for new safety procedures in the low-level airspace over the Hudson River appears to be reasonable and workable, NBAA’s Steve Brown, senior vice president for operations, recently said. FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt unveiled the plan last week after an August 8 accident between two general aviation aircraft over the river. Brown said the plan was based on input from a working group with industry and government representatives. “NBAA looks forward to reviewing a detailed rulemaking proposal and providing comments when it is issued,” Brown said. The FAA’s press release on the proposal is available at:

FAA Releases Guidance on Aircraft Climb Performance
The FAA has added guidance to expected aircraft performance on terminal instrument procedures-based standard instrument departure procedures (SIDs) and obstacle departure procedures (ODPs) in the Agency’s recent Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). This new guidance was included in the AIM in response to inquiries by operators concerning the need to comply with a SID or ODP climb gradient following an engine failure on takeoff above V1 speed.
