BUSINESS AVIATION NEWS & ISSUES
NBAA Resource Details SEC Disclosures for Member Companies
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires publicly traded companies to disclose the values of perquisites, such as non-business use of aircraft provided to certain executives, but the IRS has differing rules for reporting non-business use of aircraft and may require a company providing non-business flights to disallow a portion of the depreciation normally attributable to business aircraft. For SEC purposes, when reporting the aggregate incremental cost of providing a non-business flight, should public companies include the cost of disallowed depreciation? This question is analyzed in a new article co-authored by NBAA Tax Committee Member Alvaro Pascotto. For more information, visit:

DOT to Issue Air Charter Broker NPRM
At a recent meeting with the Department of Transportation (DOT), officials informed NBAA staff of their intent to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) with respect to air charter brokers. The NRPM is expected later this year and NBAA will provide written comments after it is released. Over the past years, NBAA has urged the DOT to take regulatory action to further clarify the role of the air charter broker, and codify an indirect air carrier status for air charter brokers. Business Aviation Honors Military Heroes
Business aviation is at work in many ways in the U.S., as demonstrated in the role of business airplanes in providing air transport for organizations focused on lending a hand to deserving citizens. Impact A Hero Weekend, sponsored by the non-profit Impact Player Partners, is an annual celebration for the nation's military veterans in Houston, TX. For the third straight year, business airplanes provided flights for wounded and disabled U.S. veterans to the event. NBAA Member Company Universal Weather & Aviation donated both flight time and pilots to fly Marine Corporal Ronny Porta and Army Sergeant Joel Tavera in its Gulfstream G150 to the Houston-area event. Both are still in treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Read the full article at:

Podcast: What To Know About Crossing the U.S.-Canadian Border?
In the years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, business aviation flights over the U.S.-Canadian border have been subjected to an ever-changing regimen of government regulations. If your business conducts flights across the border between the U.S. and Canada, what should you know before you go? This week's NBAA Flight Plan covers the basics as a follow-up to a recent webinar on the topic hosted by NBAA and the Canadian Business Aviation Association. REGIONAL NEWS
Strong Teterboro Event Demonstrates Value of NBAA Regional Forums
While this week's NBAA Regional Forum at Jet Aviation on Teterboro Airport (TEB) might be the Association's most successful forum to date, it will also demonstrate the value of NBAA's regional events to the business aviation community. Among other benefits, NBAA's Regional Forums provide a venue for discussion of the issues confronting NBAA Members at the local level: that is, the airport policies, city council ordinances and proposals from state legislatures that impact business aviation flight operations in a specific city, state or region. At the Teterboro event on June 10, over 1,000 industry professionals are expected to be in attendance, with 30 static display aircraft and over 90 indoor exhibits. The host FBO, Jet Aviation, will be open for business during the event. For more information, visit:

Advocacy Makes a Difference With Florida Tax Legislation
Florida use tax reform legislation recently signed by Governor Charlie Crist is a win for the state's economy and for out-of-state aircraft owners. Newly purchased aircraft of non-residents living in another state will be able to fly to Florida and remain for up to 21 days during the first six months of ownership, and an aircraft may enter or remain in Florida exclusively for the purpose of flight training and repairs with no time constraints during the first six months of ownership without the potential liability of a Florida use tax.
