The new runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), 10R/28L, is not included in the current databases installed on many terrain awareness and warning systems (TAWS) in use by turbine-powered aircraft. As a result, an unwanted “too low terrain” alert may be generated by the TAWS during the final approach to the runway resulting from the terrain clearance floor (TCF).
The Airplane Flight Manual, Airplane Flight Manual Supplement or TAWS Operating Manual will furnish instructions for use when landing on a runway that is not included in the TAWS airport database intended to prevent unwanted alerts.
The new south parallel Runway 10R/28L, opened Sept. 18. Surface constraints will remain for the next several months while the airport finishes the mid-field taxiway infrastructure.
