July 1, 2011

Sample Cover Letter for Certified Security Concern Filing

Note: Companies should specify in their letter the level of blocking they require, which is either by ASDI vendors or at the FAA source. In the event this is not specified, the FAA will block the aircraft at the FAA source. See www.nbaa.org/ops/security/barr/introduction/ for more information on the differences between these two options.

Note: Some companies may wish to include a brief description of threat information, but would be wise to limit disclosure to information that is available in the public domain. Sensitive information that would create a security risk should not be disclosed because any information provided to the FAA may become publicly-available through a FOIA request.

Certified Security Concern

In accordance with 76 FR 32258, which was published in the Federal Register on June 3, 2011 (the "Notice"), Company XYZ (XYZ) submits that a Certified Security Concern exists under the Valid Security Concern requirements defined in the Notice regarding the security of XYZ, its subsidiaries, as well as its aircraft, aircraft passengers, and employees. We understand that a Valid Security Concern is a verifiable threat to person, property or company, including a threat of death, kidnapping or serious bodily harm against an individual, a recent history of violent terrorist activity in the geographic area in which the transportation is provided, or a threat against a company.

The XYZ aircraft subject to this Certified Security Concern are as follows: N1234A, N5678B, N4321Z. Therefore, XYZ respectfully requests the FAA to continue the uninterrupted services of blocking the aircraft identification numbers from release [OPTION 1: by the industry subscribers to the FAA’s data feed][OPTION 2: at the FAA level].

On [DATE SUBMITTED], I do certify and affirm that the above statements are true and correct.
