The Above and Beyond Award for Heroic Achievement recognizes those individuals whose substantial actions avoided injury, loss of life, or catastrophic business aircraft damage. It was created by NBAA’s Safety Committee in 2020 to emphasize the importance of ‘stick-and-rudder’ flying skills – an aspect many pilots believe has taken a back seat in the rush toward cockpit automation.
