NBAA annually presents the David W. Ewald Platinum Wing Award to recognize lifetime achievement and excellence in journalism.
In 2007, the award was renamed to honor the late David W. Ewald, who spent nearly 50 years serving the business aviation community as a magazine publisher and industry spokesperson. In 1958, he helped create Business & Commercial Aviation, and in 1989, he co-founded Flight Training magazine. In subsequent years, Ewald was also involved in launching a number of other special-interest publications.
