NBAA recently presented its Silk Scarf Award to Lisa Sasse, founder and chairman of the board of FlightStart Solutions and outgoing Aviation Directors Roundtable chairperson, in recognition of her career-long commitment to business aviation safety.

“Lisa has been a longtime advocate for business aviation safety, volunteering her time and expertise to support numerous industry working groups and committees that have focused countless hours on the collection and promotion of the safety standards and best practices that raise the bar for everyone in the sector,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We are pleased to present Lisa with NBAA’s Silk Scarf Award as she concludes her service to the Aviation Directors Roundtable.”

Sasse has broad experience in aviation safety, but also in cybersecurity. In 2006, she founded FlightStart Solutions, which provides cyberspace security protection and lithium battery thermal runaway protection, among other services. She also played a pivotal role at VisionSafe Corporation, which developed and patented an emergency vision assurance system for pilots to see when confronted with dense smoke in the cockpit.

Sasse is a former chair of the Flight Safety Foundation’s Business Advisory Committee, which organizes the organization’s annual Business Aviation Safety Summit (BASS). She was also key to the founding of the Chief Pilots Roundtable and has been a longtime member of the Teterboro Users Group, currently serving as treasurer.

In 2020, Sasse was recognized with the Flight Safety Foundation’s Presidential Award for her contributions to aviation safety and is a Royal Aeronautical Society Fellow.
