Benjamin Schwalen

Benjamin Schwalen currently serves as general counsel & corporate secretary for NBAA.

His responsibilities include directing NBAA’s legal affairs, ensuring the organization operates in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and anticipating and reducing areas of business and legal risk.

Since September 2022, Schwalen has also been the staff liaison to NBAA’s Tax Committee. In this role, he directs aviation tax, economic and finance policy matters for the association and oversees related events, including the annual Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference.

As corporate secretary, Schwalen advises the association’s board of directors on governance matters and manages member, board and committee meetings. He also serves as the staff liaison to the association’s Nominating & Governance Committee and as a director of NBAA Charities.

Having joined NBAA in 2001, Schwalen served the association in various roles, including those focused on membership and events, before assuming his current position.

A native of Illinois, Schwalen received a B.A. in history and a J.D. from the George Washington University. He resides in Washington, DC, with his wife, Courtney, and their two boys.
