Molly Hitch interned with NBAA in the summer of 2013, working in marketing and member services for the Association. Upon her 2015 graduation from Texas Christian University with a degree in marketing and entrepreneurial management, Hitch took those skills she learned at NBAA and began her career at Wichita, KS-based Textron Aviation as a trade shows and events associate.

Hitch, 21, said the NBAA internship “significantly helped me boost my resume and make me more marketable to business aviation firms.” She credited NBAA for giving her practical experience and the skill set she needed to land her job.

“It was a really fun experience for the summer,” Hitch said of her internship. “I loved living in DC and having the opportunity to be so close to so many things to do.”

The best part, she said, was working with friendly and helpful NBAA staff and learning the business side of aviation. Hitch said she applied for the NBAA internship was because she wanted “to gain knowledge about business aviation, as well as work in a great marketing department.”

Her advice to interns: remember that no task is too small.

“Some things seem pointless and tedious, but those kinds of tasks will be found at any job and learning to do them well will help you in the long run,” Hitch said. “Enjoy where you are and the people you are with. It can be easy to always be focusing on the next step, but then you miss out on what you could be enjoying now.”

As Hitch continues to grow in her new career, she said she would encourage college students to look at business aviation as a possible career.

“Business aviation is hard work, but very rewarding,” she said. “Have a positive attitude because sometimes things aren’t as you planned or envisioned, but they will usually work out even better than you could have imagined in the end.”
