Years in the Making, NEC ACR Project Delivers Major Changes Starting April 20 April 10, 2023: While the pandemic delayed full implementation of the Northeast Corridor Administration Atlantic Coast Routes Project – replacing jet airways with RNAV-centric Q and Y routes – these significant changes to the East Coast airway structure will take effect on Thursday, April 20, 2023.
Flight Crews: Expect Flow Control to Florida This Winter Nov/Dec 2022: As the number of flights heading south from the Northeast increases substantially starting around Thanksgiving, operators should expect airspace flow programs to be instituted.
Major Northeast Corridor Atlantic Coast Routes Project Implementation Postponed July 15, 2022: The FAA is postponing implementation of certain changes to the Northeast Corridor Atlantic Coast Routes until spring 2023, when an initiative to improve efficiencies for traffic to and from the Florida Metroplex, including more than 150 new or modified routes, will culminate.
Major Northeast Corridor NextGen Project to Culminate This Fall March 17, 2022: The remaining changes to the Northeast Corridor Atlantic Coast Routes project should be completed before the end of 2022, completing a multi-year initiative designed to reduce delays and improve efficiencies for traffic to and from the Florida Metroplex.
Flight Crews: Northeast Route Updates to Be Finished in 2022 Nov/Dec 2021: Full implementation of revised routes and procedures has been delayed because of COVID-19’s impact on air traffic controller training.
Washington DC SFRA Info Inadvertently Omitted from Aug. 12 Chart Supplement Aug. 27, 2021: The FAA issued a safety alert on Aug. 25 notifying users of the Chart Supplement (CS) Northeast U.S. that due to an internal error the Washington DC SFRA Special Terms and Procedures were inadvertently omitted for the CS with an effective date of Aug. 12, 2021.
Pilots Encouraged to Request RNAV X Approach for TEB Night Ops July 21, 2021: Pilots flying into Teterboro, NJ at night are encouraged to request the TEB RNAV (GPS) X approach to Runway 19 to minimize noise impacts on the surrounding area.
FAA, NBAA Secure New, Specialized Departure Options for Bizav Flights From NYC Area July 8, 2021: A collaborative effort between NBAA and FAA has produced new routes for business aircraft operators departing from Teterboro Airport and Westchester County Airport during times of high traffic congestion or severe weather.

New RNAV SIDs, STARs Coming to Cleveland, Detroit-Area Airports Sept. 13 Aug. 30, 2018: Numerous new RNAV STARs and RNAV SIDs will be implemented Sept.13 for Cleveland and Detroit-area airports. These procedures are part of the ongoing Cleveland/Detroit Metroplex project.
New RNAV STAR Arrival Procedures Announced for Cleveland, Detroit-Area Airports June 18, 2018: A NOTAM has been issued prohibiting the use of the new arrival procedures for Cleveland and Detroit-area airports.
Taxiway Z between Taxiway A and Taxiway Y7 will be closed at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) until June 1, 2018 April 13, 2018: This taxiway closure will affect ground operations as well as runway utilization due to the bottleneck that is created.
New DC Airspace Flight Plan Requirements Effective March 29; DASSP Procedures Affected March 20, 2018: Effective March 29, 2018, pilots operating in the Washington DC Flight Restricted Zone must file flight plans through the FAA’s Washington Center Flight Data Unit.
NBAA's Saucier Receives Massachusetts Aviation Hall of Fame Award Oct. 18, 2017: Dean Saucier, who for 17 years has served as NBAA's Northeast regional representative, was recently honored with a Massachusetts Aviation Hall of Fame Award, which is presented annually by the Massachusetts Airport Management Association (MAMA) to an individual who exemplifies outstanding commitment to aviation in the commonwealth. Saucier was presented with the award at the recent MAMA conference in Amherst, MA.
NBAA Requesting Additional Routes Around Bedminster TFR During President’s August Vacation Aug. 2, 2017: With a TFR in place most of August over President Donald Trump’s residence in Bedminster, NJ, NBAA has requested that the FAA develop additional supplementary routes in and out of the New York City area when weather or traffic volume impedes the flow of traffic. The TFR runs from Aug. 4-20.
Primary Runway Closure at Hanscom Field Airport Begins Aug. 1 July 27, 2017: A major airfield construction project will be taking place at L.G. Hanscom Field (BED), which will impact the availability of Runway 11/29.
Maneuvering Area Remains in Effect During Remote Tower Testing at Leesburg May 16, 2017: A mobile air traffic control tower will be operating at Virginia’s Leesburg Executive Airport (JYO) this summer, requiring operators flying under both VFR and IFR to contact the tower.
Boston’s Logan Runway Construction Project Begins May 15 May 4, 2017: A runway construction project at Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) begins May 15. The project to repave and rehabilitate runway 4R/22L will last through early September, with a full runway closure planned between May 15 and June 23. Air traffic delays are possible during the construction project.
Thanksgiving Holiday Route Requirements Released Between the Northeast, Florida March 31, 2017: To minimize Thanksgiving 2016 holiday air travel delays, the U.S. military will open portions of the VACAPES airspace off the mid-Atlantic coast to civilian air traffic.
Morristown Closed for Fixed-Wing Operations on Oct. 15 March 31, 2017: Morristown Municipal Airport has scheduled an airport closure for fixed-wing operations on Saturday, Oct.15, 2016, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., due to runway maintenance.
FAA to Ease Slot Restrictions at Newark Liberty International Airport March 31, 2017: The FAA plans to ease slot restrictions at Newark Liberty International Airport.
TFR in Washington, DC for Nuclear Industry Summit March 31, 2017: Due to the 2016 Nuclear Industry Summit, a temporary flight restriction is in place around the Washington, DC area from March 31, 2016, until April 1, 2016.
TRACON Radar Outage Will Affect Cape Cod ATC Services Through March 2016 March 31, 2017: The Cape TRACON ASR-8 surveillance radar will be out of service from Oct. 13, 2015, until March 13, 2016, the FAA announced.
2017 Presidential Inauguration – Washington, DC – Jan. 20, 2017 Jan. 17, 2017: Plans are underway to handle the expected increased air traffic Jan. 20-22, 2017, which will be associated with the upcoming presidential inauguration in Washington, DC.
FAA Withdraws NY/NJ Airport Slot Proposal Ensuring Flexibility for Business Aviation May 18, 2016: In May 2016, the FAA withdrew a notice of proposed rulemaking that would have significantly reduced unscheduled operations at John F. Kennedy and Newark Liberty International airports.
TFRs Issued for Papal Visit to Northeast U.S. Sept. 23, 2015: Temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) have been released for Pope Francis's Sept. 2015 visit to Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA and New York City.
Next Phase of Washington, DC Metroplex Airspace Changes Being Implemented June 26, 2015: The FAA implemented the next phase of the Washington, DC Metroplex effort on June 25, 2015.
Changes Coming to Airspace Around Washington, DC on March 5 March 4, 2015: The second stage of FAA's new plan for redesigning the airspace around Washington, D.C. goes live March 5.
Extensive Airspace Reconfigurations Coming Nov. 13 Nov. 10, 2014: One of the biggest airspace reconfigurations ever undertaken in North America is underway, and will go into effect on Nov. 13, 2014. It will affect just about every route, departure and approach between Windsor, Ontario, Canada; Cleveland, OH and Boston, MA.
TFRs in Place in New York City, Sept. 17 to 30 Sept. 10, 2014: As part of the 69th United Nations General Assembly in New York City, a number of temporary flight restrictions NOTAMs will be issued for the New York metro area from Sept. 17 to 30, 2014.
Westchester County Airport Localizer Upgrades Continue July 25, 2014: Due to an instrument landing system upgrade, Westchester County Airport, in White Plains, NY, will experience an outage of its Runway 34 localizer from July 28, 2014, through Aug. 23, 2014.
New York Center Changes Flight Plan Filing Guidance During Severe Weather July 14, 2014: FAA air traffic control at New York Center has changed the way it prefers operators file their route during a severe weather avoidance plan event.
Thanksgiving Weekend Military Exercise Likely to Increase Air Traffic Delays Around Florida Nov. 18, 2013: The Navy is conducting a pre-deployment Composite Training Unit Exercise along the Southeast Atlantic Coast between Nov. 6th and Dec. 18., which could impact air traffic.
New York City: UN General Assembly Temporary Flight Restrictions Sept. 5, 2013: As part of the 68th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York City, a number of Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) NOTAMs will be issued for metro New York area on September 18-30, 2013.
New York LaGuardia (LGA) Runway 4 ILS Glideslope Not Available Until Further Notice Sept. 5, 2013: During a recent FAA flight check of the instrument landing system (ILS) for Runway 4 at New York La Guardia Airport (LGA), a building was identified as an obstacle, causing the glideslope to be unavailable until further notice.
Trenton Mercer Airport (TTN) Runway Construction Begins Sept. 9 Aug. 28, 2013: A runway construction project at Trenton Mercer Airport (TTN) will begin on September 9 and is expected to continue until November 8, 2013. The project will result in the installation of engineered material arresting systems (EMAS) at both ends of Runway 6/24.
Significant Runway Rehabilitation Project at Newburgh/Stewart International Airport July 25, 2013: A significant runway rehabilitation project will commence this month at Newburgh/Stewart International Airport (SWF) and last through May of 2015.
General Aviation Will Face Flight Limits in DC Metro Area on Inauguration Day Jan. 7, 2013: The aviation community will face a host of temporary flight restrictions over the Washington, DC, metro area on Jan. 21, 2013 to accommodate President Obama's inauguration.

Dulles (IAD) Southern Departure Route During Convective Weather April 13, 2010: NBAA was successful in securing a new route for traffic departing Dulles International Airport (IAD) and heading to southeast Florida. This route is only for use on convective weather days and should result in reduced delays on days where thunderstorms are interfering with existing routes.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-Area G-20 Summit TFR Sept. 14, 2009: As part of the security involving presidential movement, a temporary flight restriction (TFR) has been issued for the Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts area for the dates of August 23-30, 2009. Members should read this NOTAM closely as the TFR will significantly impact operations into Martha's Vineyard Airport (MVY).
