Updated Feb. 7, 2025
Super Bowl LIX will take place Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, LA. Game time will be at 5:30 p.m. (CST). The following information has been gathered by NBAA Air Traffic Services to assist business aircraft operators planning trips into and out of the New Orleans metropolitan area during the published timeframes.
Due to the high volume of air traffic anticipated during the 2025 Super Bowl LIX activities, a reservation program for all non-scheduled general aviation operations has been created and is required for both arrivals and departures, including drop-and-goes, to and from airports in the New Orleans metropolitan area, from Thursday, Feb. 6, through Monday, Feb. 10.
Each FBO has been given an allocation of slot times from their respective airport directors, as determined by the FAA’s arrival/departure rates, that they can schedule customers into. Reservations must be obtained through your FBO of choice at the given airport.
Because of parking constraints, drop-and-go reservations may be the only choice for some or all of the New Orleans area airports once long term/overnight parking is at capacity. This requires operators to obtain reservations for both the drop-off and pickup operations. With reservations expected to run short of demand, operators who know they will be attending should make their reservations as soon as possible.
The following airports are accepting reservations through their respective FBOs:
- MSY – Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport
- NEW – Lakefront Airport
- ASD – Slidell Airport
- HDC – Hammond Northshore Regional Airport
- APS – Port of South Louisiana Executive Regional Airport
These additional airports will likely be utilized in addition to the airports listed above. They are not using the aircraft reservation program, however, flight operators should contact them prior to operation to confirm parking availability.
- BTR – Baton Rouge Metropolitan Ryan Field
- LFT – Lafayette Regional Paul Fournet Field
- HSA – Stennis International Airport
- HUM – Houma-Terrebonne Airport
FAA Initiatives
Air traffic volumes and demand will likely challenge ATC’s ability to deliver air traffic to the New Orleans area. Crews should anticipate air traffic management initiatives throughout the week. Heavy demand and traffic management initiatives are possible from Thursday, Feb. 6, through Monday, Feb. 10. Chances for initiatives increase if poor weather conditions are encountered.
FAA traffic management initiatives could include the following:
- Ground Delay Programs (GDPs)
- Airspace Flow Programs (AFPs)
- Time Based Metering
- Miles in Trail
- Airborne Holding
- Ground Stops
Required Route Structures for Arrivals and Departures
IFR aircraft arriving and departing the New Orleans area should file and expect to be routed in accordance with the FAA’s Special Traffic Management Procedures. Arrival and departure routes for turbojet aircraft will be implemented and enforced from Thursday, Feb. 6, until Tuesday, Feb. 11.

An ATC playbook for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and New Orleans Lakefront Airport (NEW) has also been published.

Special Event TFR Prohibiting General Aviation Operations
A temporary flight restriction (TFR) NOTAM 5/1068 has been published for Super Bowl LIX. A 10 nautical mile ring centered near the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, LA will prohibit general aviation flight operations at NEW from 1530 local CST (2130z) until 2230 local CST (0430z) on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025.
TSA Gateway Screening for NEW Departures During the Super Bowl TFR is Possible
TSA gateway screening will be allowed departured only out of New Orleans Lakefront Airport (NEW) during the TFR. To arrange TSA departure screening out of NEW during the TFR, operators must first obtain a “departure reservation” through either Flightline First and Signature Aviation for screening at their facility. After obtaining a departure reservation, operators must reserve TSA screening via phone at 504-463-2248 at least 24 hours in advance of the departure time.
