Plan Now for Formula 1 Debut in Las Vegas: PPR Restrictions in Place Oct. 31, 2023: NBAA encourages business aircraft operators to plan early if they will be flying into or out of the greater Las Vegas area Nov. 14-21, 2023, as the city’s airports expect an unprecedented high volume of aircraft for the debut Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Super Bowl LVII – Glendale, AZ – Feb. 12, 2023 Feb. 6, 2023: Super Bowl LVI will take place on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ. NBAA Air Traffic Services has information to assist business aviation flights planning on operating into and out of the Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas metropolitan areas within that timeframe.
Las Vegas Implementing PPR Program for GA Transients April 28 April 27, 2022: If business takes you to the Las Vegas, NV, area April 28-May 1, 2022, in anticipation of increased traffic due to the NFL Draft, the Las Vegas TRACON issued a NOTAM that establishes a prior permission required (PPR) program for unscheduled and transient general aviation flights.
SUN Publishes Air Traffic Procedures for Winter Holidays Dec. 14, 2021: Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) has outlined the procedures in place for flight operators traveling into Sun Valley, ID during 2021-2022 upcoming winter holiday season.
FAA Publishes Air Traffic Management Procedures for Super Bowl LVI Dec. 9, 2021: If your business plans take you to the Los Angeles, CA area the second week of February, be aware that the FAA has published procedures outlining special air traffic management plans for area airports.
Expect a Busy Winter Season in Ski Country Oct. 9, 2021: Airports in the region are expected to be as busy between December and March as they were before the pandemic.
Las Vegas Metroplex Implementation Begins This Month Feb. 3, 2021: Implementation of the Las Vegas Metroplex initiative, including 45 new or changed procedures, will begin in February, creating efficiencies and deconflicting airspace around three Las Vegas-area airports.
Situational Awareness Tool to be Used for Colorado Ski Country Airports Dec. 16, 2020: The FAA is using a situational awareness tool for the Colorado ski country airports called PACER, which was developed by MITRE Corp., to allow flight operators and the FAA ATC facilities to capture flight demand at specific airports.
NBAA Offers 5 Tips for Operating Near the West Coast Fires Sept. 18, 2020: NBAA Air Traffic Services has advice for business aircraft operators with plans to fly into areas most impacted by the West Coast fires.
LAS Metroplex Implementation Delayed to 2021 Due to Pandemic Aug. 24, 2020: Completion of Las Vegas Metroplex airspace changes has slipped from November 2020 - February 2021 due to the pandemic.
FAA Says Santa Monica Can Use Airport Revenue for Runway Demolition Oct. 30, 2019: The FAA says that the city of Santa Monica is able to use airport revenue for projects associated with its runway shortening project.
FAA Releases Air Traffic Procedures NOTAM for NBAA-BACE Oct. 17, 2019: The FAA has issued an air traffic procedures NOTAM for NBAA-BACE, which runs Oct. 22-24, 2019, in Las Vegas, NV.
SMO Construction Closures Extended to Nov. 8 Sept. 6, 2019: On June 16, 2019, Santa Monica Municipal Airport begin removing pavement from the ends of the airfield's shortened runway, with a target completion date of Oct. 4., 2019.
Boeing Field Nightly Runway Closures Starting June 6 May 23, 2019: King County International Airport/Boeing Field (BFI) has scheduled closures of the primary Runway 14R/32L beginning Thursday, June 6, 2019, due to required maintenance.
Seattle-Tacoma Airport Runway 16L/34R Closure Begins Aug. 26 Aug. 22, 2018: A runway/construction project will close Runway 16L/34R at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) beginning Sunday, Aug. 26. The project is scheduled to run 90 days with a planned reopening of the runway on Friday, Nov. 23.
Changes Coming to Class B Airspace Over San Francisco Aug. 1, 2018: Upcoming revisions to the Class B airspace over San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will primarily affect VFR operations throughout the area, but NBAA recommends that business aviation operators flying under instrument flight plans also review these changes coming to Northern California. Taking effect Aug. 16, the changes reshape the current concentric circle-based Bravo footprint to a staggered layout, leaving added room to accommodate VFR traffic.
Nightly Closures of Boeing Field’s Primary Runway Begin Aug. 9 July 24, 2018: A runway construction project at King County International Airport/Boeing Field (BFI) in Seattle, WA, will cause nightly closures of Runway 14R/32L every Thursday to Sunday beginning on Aug. 9. The project is scheduled to last through Oct. 15.
Friedman Memorial Airport Event June 27, 2018: Significant air traffic volume is expected at Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) in Hailey, ID for the 2017 Friedman Memorial Airport Event, to be held July 11 to 16, in Sun Valley, ID.
Montana's Bozeman Airport Sets a Positive Example for Airport Operators May 23, 2018: Montana's Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), hosts a variety of aircraft operations, including scheduled airlines, Part 91 and Part 135 operators, helicopters, glider towing, air ambulance, cargo, military training, flight schools and light general aviation.
Truckee Tahoe Airport Using NextGen to Benefit Operators, Community April 26, 2018: Truckee Tahoe Airport, in conjunction with the FAA and Harris Corp., is in the final stages of implementing an ADS-B ground station. The airport district is planning on paying for the installation, which will provide NextGen-capable surveillance.
Bozeman Airport Runway 12/30 Closure Expected April 30 to May 19 April 25, 2018: Runway 12/30 at Montana’s Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) will be closed daily between 12:30 and 11 p.m. local time (1830z-0500z) from April 30 to May 19, due to a rehabilitation and resurfacing project.
NBAA Urges Operators to Comment on New Eagle County Departure Procedures March 9, 2018: NBAA members are asked to comment by March 28, 2018, on a proposed RNAV SID at Colorado’s Eagle County Regional Airport.
ATC Delays Expected During Southern California Metroplex Implementation Starting March 2 Jan. 29, 2018: Significant changes to airspace procedures associated with the Southern California Metroplex Phase Two implementation on March 2 will likely cause delays for operators. The delays may be attributed to air traffic control traffic management initiatives for one to two weeks, as the local controllers adjust to the procedural airspace changes.
Nightly Runway Closure at San Diego Airport Through Oct. 26, 2018 Nov. 8, 2017: Due to a runway rehabilitation project at San Diego International Airport (SAN), Runway 9/27 will be closed daily from midnight to 5 a.m. local time. The closures will run Monday through Saturday mornings through Friday, Oct 26, 2018.
Parking Reservations Required at McCarran (LAS) Sept. 14-18 Sept. 7, 2017: For those needing to be in Las Vegas for business purposes on Sept. 14-18, some additional planning may be needed for operations at McCarran International Airport (LAS). Parking reservations will be required during this period and can be obtained through local FBOs.
Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport Parking Reservations Required Aug. 24-28 Aug. 18, 2017: Due to the expected increase in air traffic associated with the Mayweather-McGregor fight on Saturday, Aug. 26, parking reservations are required for all operations into Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport (LAS) between Aug. 24-28. Reservations can be obtained through FBOs of choice at LAS.
Seafair Air Show Brings Temporary Airspace Restrictions Aug. 3-6, 2017 July 28, 2017: The Boeing Seafair Air Show, in the Seattle, WA area, is scheduled from Aug. 3-6, and TFRs will be in place each day, which will restrict flight operations at Boeing Field/King County International Airport (BFI) during the high-performance aircraft portions of the air show.
LA-Area Military Exercises Trigger Temporary Airspace Restrictions Aug. 7-26 July 27, 2017: Operators that frequent Southern California airspace, particularly east of Los Angeles, are being asked to carefully review NOTAMs from Aug. 7-26 to ensure they are aware of temporary Special Use Airspace (SUA) and related restrictions that the FAA has established to support a U.S. Marine Corps training exercise.
UNLV Rescinds Request for Review of Sports Complex Site Near McCarran May 25, 2017: Last month, business aviation stakeholders operating around Las Vegas, NV weighed in on the FAA's obstruction analysis of a proposed University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) stadium less than a mile from McCarran International Airport (LAS), and its potential effects on aviation operations over the city. Following this community feedback, UNLV rescinded its request to have the site near LAS reviewed.
Proposed UNLV Stadium Could Prove Problematic for Las Vegas-Area Operations April 28, 2017: NBAA is encouraging business aviation stakeholders operating around Las Vegas, NV to weigh in on the FAA's evaluation of a proposed stadium less than a mile from McCarran International Airport.
New RNAV Approaches Enable Greater Access to Santa Monica Airport April 25, 2017: Three new RNAV approach procedures into Santa Monica Municipal Airport (SMO) will go into effect later this week, dramatically expanding access to the Southern California airfield in adverse weather conditions. The new procedures follow more than two years of engagement by NBAA with the FAA.
Short-Term Delays Begin April 27 as Part of Continuing Modernization Work in Southern California April 13, 2017: Operators can expect delays due to ATC traffic management initiatives associated with the Southern California Metroplex Phase Three implementation on April 27. The initiatives are expected to last one to two weeks as the local controllers adjust to the procedural airspace changes.
NBAA: Proposed Restricted Areas in Alaska Would Have Negative Operational Impacts April 13, 2017: NBAA has filed formal comments in opposition to proposed new restricted areas proposed by the FAA as R-2201A through H, and J, in Fort Greely, AK, near Allen Army Airfield. The agency has proposed the change at the request of the U.S. Army, which is seeking this airspace carve out to “conduct full spectrum helicopter gunnery training, longer range firing on target areas and integrated use of varied weapon types.”
Major Changes Coming to Southern California Airspace Jan. 27, 2017: A sweeping airspace optimization project will soon take effect for Southern California, and NBAA encourages its members to take advantage of online resources and public workshops to familiarize themselves with the changes.
New Procedures Coming to Southern California-Area Airports Nov. 10 Oct. 19, 2016: Several new STARs, SIDs and airport approaches will be implemented in and out of the Southern California-area airports beginning Nov. 10, 2016.
Southern California Wake Turbulence Separation Being Reduced Sept. 22, 2016: As part of an ongoing review by the FAA of aircraft wake turbulence separation standards, several Southern California airports will be designated as able to benefit from the reduced separation.
Runway Closure at Phoenix Airport Begins Oct. 6 Sept. 21, 2016: Runway 08/26 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is scheduled to be closed from Oct. 6 to Nov. 6, 2016, due to required maintenance.
FAA Finalizes Southern California Airspace Improvement Project Sept. 8, 2016: The FAA is moving forward with the Southern California Metroplex airspace modernization project, setting a timeline that will see 99 satellite-based procedures put in place by May 2017.
Seafair Airshow TFR Restrictions at Seattle Boeing Field Aug. 4-7, 2016 Aug. 3, 2016: Temporary flight restrictions associated with the Boeing Seafair Air Show in the Seattle, WA area will restrict flight operations at Boeing Field
Take Note: Military Will Conduct GPS Testing in Hawaiian Airspace This Month July 12, 2016: Due to GPS testing associated with military activity, the TCAS and ADS-B system may be less sensitive than normal in the airspace over portions of the Hawaiian Islands between July 11 and Aug. 2, 2016, between the surface and FL500.
Ground Interval Management System Testing Begins into Denver March 15, 2016: Denver Center is testing the Ground Interval Management System for turbojet aircraft arriving Denver International Airport from the Northeast.
Operators: Amended Altitude Restriction via the DYAMD TWO STAR into San Francisco Airport Feb. 4, 2016: Flight operators utilizing the DYAMD TWO (RNAV) arrival into San Francisco International Airport (SFO) are reminded of a NOTAM that changes the altitude restriction at ARCHI to read 8,000 feet.
Amended Altitude Clearance Affecting Aircraft Arriving San Francisco (KSFO) DYAMD Two STAR (RNAV) Dec. 13, 2015: From Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at 0700 local (1500Z) to Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at 2200 local (0600z/19), ATC will assign an amended altitude with the Descend Via clearance for aircraft arriving via the DYAMD Two STAR (RNAV) into San Francisco.
New SIDs, STARs Coming to San Francisco Bay-Area Airports Dec. 4, 2015: The final procedures associated with the Northern California Metroplex Implementation will be published on Dec. 10, 2015.
Double-Check Pre-Departure Clearance to Avoid Possible Danger Near Denver International Airport Oct. 2, 2015: Denver Center has experienced incidents in which aircraft have incorrectly flown the YOKES4 RNAV SID, DEHLI transition by making an unexpected turn after YOKES and going direct to DEHLI or some other point in their flight plan instead of correctly following the procedure to CHICI and then DEHLI.
Comment Period Extended for Southern California Metroplex Project Sept. 10, 2015: The FAA is extending the public comment period for the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) of the Southern California Metroplex project by an additional 30 days, until Oct. 8, 2015.
NBAA Urges Operators to Comment On SoCal Metroplex by September 8 Aug. 24, 2015: Business aircraft operators have until Sept. 8, 2015, to send comments to the FAA regarding the SoCal Metroplex Project.
Oakland International Airport SIDs Revised Aug. 14, 2015: On Aug. 20, 2015, the Oakland International Airport (OAK) CNDEL and KATFH RANV SIDs will be revised and up numbered.
Seafair Airshow TFR Restrictions at Seattle Boeing Field July 30 to Aug. 2, 2015 July 24, 2015: Temporary flight restrictions associated with the Boeing Seafair Air Show in the Seattle, WA area will restrict flight operations at Boeing Field
NBAA Applauds Progress in FAA's Southern California Airspace Improvement Project June 26, 2015: NBAA is encouraged by the FAA's Draft Environmental Assessment for the Southern California Metroplex project – an initiative to improve the flow of air traffic into and out of the region.
NBAA Concerned About Proposed Expansion of Alaskan Military Operation Areas May 14, 2015: NBAA has identified several areas of concern related to the proposed expansion and modification of the vast Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex, citing the potential impact on business aviation in Alaska.
New Optimized Profile Descent Procedures to be Implemented into San Francisco-Area Airport April 27, 2015: Five new RNAV STARs will be implemented for the San Francisco-area airports on April 30, 2015.
New RNAV STARs Will Guide Arrivals to Billings, MT Starting April 30 April 16, 2015: To optimize the airspace surrounding Montana's Billings Logan International Airport, four new RNAV standard terminal arrival routes will take effect April 30.
Incursions at SLC Prompt Development of New Hotspot Poster Dec. 9, 2014: Due to runway incursions at Salt Lake International Airport, NBAA has partnered with the Utah Business Aviation Association, airport staff and the FAA's Office of Runway Safety to assist in the development of a new hotspot poster.
New RNAV Procedures in Phoenix Area; Albuquerque Testing New Traffic Tool for PHX Arrivals Sept. 19, 2014: New RNAV SIDs and STARs are being implemented in Phoenix, AZ area. Additionally, Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center has begun testing a new traffic management tool for the EAGUL RNAV arrival into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Pilots Urged to Exercise Caution to Prevent Runway Incursions at SLC Sept. 10, 2014: Salt Lake City International Airport plans to take additional steps to identify where Taxiway K begins and the TAC Air FBO ramp ends, following several runway incursions in the summer of 2014.
Jeppesen Issues Chart Alert for SFO July 8, 2013: Jeppesen issued an alert warning all operators that the tower monitor frequency at San Francisco International is not depicted on the current charting cycle, dated June 21, 2013, for two approach procedures.
FAA to Release GPS-based Simultaneous Close Parallel Approaches at San Francisco June 7, 2013: The FAA will be releasing in the June 27 charting cycle two GPS-based simultaneous close parallel approaches to SFO to minimize capacity restrictions between June 27 and Aug. 22, 2013.
Jeppesen NavData Error at Las Vegas McCarran Airport Jan. 7, 2013: To increase efficiency at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), multiple procedures such as the BOBKT and TEERX RNAV Departure Procedures (DPs) have been developed.
NBAA, Las Vegas-Area Members Help Bring New Route to Western Region June 15, 2009: On July 2, 2009, the FAA will implement a new route from San Diego International Airport (SAN) to Henderson Executive Airport (HND) near Las Vegas, NV available to general aviation. NBAA and Las Vegas-based Members have worked for the past year with the Las Vegas and Southern California Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facilities and Los Angeles Center to make this route available.
