Italy’s Milan Linate Airport (LIN) will close for about three months as part of a project to refurbish the runway and commercial terminal, according to a notice sent to airport tenants and users.
During the closure, which will take place from 7 a.m. on July 27 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 26, Linate’s flights will be transferred to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), which has been preparing for the influx for months.
The notice describes special procedures that business aircraft must follow at Malpensa in a special regulated apron area next to the new SEA Prime GA Terminal. Flight crews are urged to check NOTAMs for the latest information on Malpensa.
“NBAA encourages members who use Linate to carefully read the closure notice and follow the instructions for Malpensa to ensure that safe and efficient operations continue during this temporary disruption,” said Doug Carr, NBAA’s vice president of regulatory and international affairs.
The project will include re-laying the takeoff and landing runway, modernizing the baggage handling system and updating the boarding, food and shopping areas. The runway needs to be redone every 15 to 20 years for safety reasons, and that work is best done in warm, dry weather, according to Linate’s website.
