NBAA encourages members who have been selected to participate in the FAA’s 48th Annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey, which examines 2025 operations. The GA Survey is the only official source for comprehensive data on the general aviation fleet, including hours flown and how aircraft are used.

“The GA Survey is a vital tool for understanding business and general aviation,” said Mark Larsen, CAM, NBAA director of safety and flight operations. “It offers key insights into operations and helps evaluate overall system safety.”

Data from this confidential survey are used by governmental agencies and industry in several ways, including:

  • Computing safety metrics, such as fatal accident rates
  • Understanding the impact of the GA industry on jobs, economic output and investments in aviation infrastructure
  • Tracking the success of safety initiatives, including avionics recommendations
  • Determining funding for infrastructure and service needs
  • Assess the impact of regulatory changes

Participants who were selected have received an email or postcard invitation asking them to complete the survey online. Those who do not complete the survey online will receive a mail survey, which includes a postage-paid return envelope.

More than 80,000, or about 30% of the population are sampled, but the sample includes smaller proportions of some aircraft. Operators are encouraged to respond even if they did not fly their aircraft during 2025, sold it or if the aircraft was damaged.

The survey is conducted by the independent research firm Tetra Tech. Anyone with questions should contact Tetra Tech at 1-800-826-1797 or email infoaviationsurvey@tetratech.com.
