Textron Aviation is responding to the COVID-19 crisis by supplying medical professionals and first responders in Kansas with face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE).

Working with Wichita State University (WSU), Textron’s process engineering department is manufacturing face shields with optically clear PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film, beginning with an open-source face shield design and using a large cutter. These face shields are intended for medical and first responder use.

Additionally, the company has donated thousands of N95 face masks, as well as face shields, gloves, coats and coverall suits through WSU.

Textron also began producing cloth face masks and plans to manufacture thousands of these masks. In alignment with government recommendations, the hope in producing these washable, reusable cloth masks is that use by most individuals will leave more N95 and surgical masks for medical personnel and first responder use.
