NBAA is encouraging business aircraft pilots who fly in airspace near Washington, DC to attend an upcoming NTSB safety seminar focusing on air traffic control and general aviation. The event will be held Dec. 12 at the agency’s training center in Ashburn, VA.
The free seminar will provide an opportunity to hear from local FAA air traffic controllers about policies and procedures necessary to navigate the complex airspace around the Washington, DC terminal area.
“Every pilot can benefit from better understanding local procedures and learning more efficient ways to navigate complex and busy airspace in which they regularly fly,” said Doug Carr, NBAA’s vice president of regulatory and international affairs. “This seminar offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the controllers managing the airspace, learn proper phraseology and be reminded of appropriate communications procedures.”
NTSB Board Member Earl Weener will be a featured presenter. Also, NTSB investigators will discuss case studies of accidents involving air traffic control and discuss the roles of judgment, situational awareness, procedures and risk management in general aviation accidents.
“NBAA applauds the NTSB for offering this important educational opportunity to pilots,” said Carr. “We continue to find the board to be active partners in promoting safety in business aviation. This seminar is just one example of the NTSB’s commitment to safety, and we encourage pilots to take advantage of these outstanding educational opportunities.”
The NTSB aims to provide at least two safety seminars focusing on general aviation each calendar year, demonstrating the agency’s dedication to general aviation safety. The four-hour seminar is free to the public, and participants in the FAA’s WINGS pilot proficiency program can receive credit for attendance. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended.
