Why is NBAA’s convention a can’t-miss event of the year? “So many different kinds of aviation companies come out, from small aircraft parts people all the way through interior designs of business jets and things that I normally don’t get to see and experience,” said one attendee. Other attendees said the ability to meet current and potential customers in person, and see the latest aviation products and services, were two of the main reasons they attended NBAA-BACE. Watch the video with these and other comments from convention attendees regarding the event’s value, but don’t only take their word for it – experience NBAA’s convention for yourself. Four sections of the IRS code affect tax deductions for business aircraft: the “ordinary and necessary” test, hobby loss rules, passive loss rules and rules for non-business use of an aircraft. However, passive loss rules are always challenging for aircraft owners. “The tax code generally considers leasing an aircraft to be a passive activity,” said Jed Wolcott, president and owner of Wolcott & Associates. “Insufficient participation in an activity by the owner may also cause the IRS to view it as passive. Both risk reducing allowable deductions, such as operating expenses and depreciation.” The NBAA Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference on Oct. 30 and 31 will examine these four code sections in detail. Register for the tax conference.
