Avoiding the Unexpected in China

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Airspace and Airport Access
Presented by: Alexandra Ferullo, Universal Weather & Aviation, Inc

Despite continued growth and increased operational flexibility in recent years, operating to China is still filled with unique challenges that could potentially derail even the most experienced operators. This session will provide a comprehensive review of the most common pitfalls operators encounter when operating to China, how to prepare for them, and what to do when the unexpected occurs. Presenters will review the processes and procedures needed to obtain overflight and landing permits for China as well as the latest information on Custom and sponsor letters, securing ground transportation, security and catering in China, fueling, and parking and slot restrictions.

Dispatcher’s Guide to Aircraft and Runway Performance

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Aircraft and Flight Operations
Presented by: Salvatore Funicella , Pfizer and Chad Patnode, Pfizer

So you just acquired a new long-range aircraft. Can your home base airport allow for full-fuel, non-stop flights? Will your trip overseas require a fuel stop due to runway limitations? Though not a prerequisite to attending this session, this discussion will continue some of the material covered in the 2-day Dispatcher Recurrent Course offered earlier in the week. Attendees will participate in scenario-based roundtable discussions using actual aircraft and runway performance data. This is also a great introduction for schedulers who want to better understand performance data. Attendees of this session are also encouraged to continue in the afternoon session titled, Dispatcher’s Guide to Flight Planning.

Managing Technology: Office to Flight Deck

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Aircraft and Flight Operations
Presented by: TJ Wirth, Jeppesen and Terry Lascher, L.J. Aviation

So you’ve embraced technology and have gone paperless! Learn how all of the areas of your operation can integrate today’s technology to better manage your flight department. Using real scenarios, how can one apply this new technology to your operation, avoid “pitfalls,” and hear “lessons learned” from others who have made this transition.

Workplace Diversity in the 21st Century

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Career and Leadership Development
Presented by: Honey Stempka, Sustainable Lifestyle Group

In today’s global work environment, it is essential that you are aware of the ways in which an understanding, or lack thereof of diversity in all it forms, impacts people’s ability to work effectively. Better understanding your own mindsets and biases can establish the foundation of welcoming and inclusive thoughts, attitudes and actions in your day-to-day interactions with every “body”. Research from the Center for American Progress has shown that welcoming and inclusive work environments are more innovative, competitive, have lower turnover rates, and ultimately strengthen the business bottom line.

Dispatcher’s Guide to Flight Planning

3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Aircraft and Flight Operations
Presented by: Salvatore Funicella, Pfizer and Chad Patnode, Pfizer

Every operator is required to have a flight plan to get to their destination. While schedulers may rarely see that output, dispatchers should be closely working with the pilots to understand the flight plan process and output. We will continue the trip discussion that began in the dispatcher recurrent course earlier this week and in the aircraft performance session from Wednesday morning. Attendees will finalize the flight plan for their trip. Whether you run flight plans in-house or use a trip support provider this session will help dispatchers stay active in the flight planning process. This is also a great introduction for schedulers not currently involved in the flight planning process.

ERP: The First 60 Minutes

3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Safety and Risk Management
Presented by: Ian McAllister, Fireside Partners LLC

This session will review the first hour of an emergency response from the perspective of a scheduler and dispatcher. The presenter will review analysis of information such as weather, ATC, and other resources data tools to (a) confirm that an event has taken place and (b) assist in the response logistically.

Operating in India: Requirements and Challenges

3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Airspace and Airport Access
Presented by: Erica Sandschulte, Rockwell Collins, Inc and Kellie Rittenhouse, CAM, Hangar Aviation Management, LLC

Learn about the operational requirements when operating to India. The presenters will combine industry knowledge and personal experiences to provide attendees with insight into best practices for operating in this busy and emerging market. Emphasis will be on key airports of interest, restrictions and requirements for operating in India, and operational and cultural challenges.

Surviving the Audit

3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Aviation Management and Aircraft Ownership
Presented by: Kent Jackson, Jackson & Wade, L.L.C. and Kali Hague, Jackson & Wade, L.L.C.

The Auditors are coming, the Auditors are coming! After the initial panic subsides, what comes next? Which abbreviation will be combing through your operation, SMS, IS-BAO, FAA? This session will discuss the different types of audits to which a flight department may be subject and the contents of said audits. We will also discuss the best ways for the scheduler or dispatcher to contribute to the preparation of a successful audit. Always remember to apply the four “P’s” Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. The audit’s intent is not to make an operation look good on paper, but to ensure it is operating at the highest levels of safety and efficiency. This session will assist the scheduler/dispatcher on that path. Takeaways include various types of audits and what their focus might be, tools and practices within the flight department to best assist the scheduler’s role in the audit, and what happens after the audit and how to adjust for the results.

Think Process, Not Function

3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

CAM | CTI
Education Track: Career and Leadership Development
Presented by: Jim Lara, Gray Stone Advisors and Steve Brechter, Gray Stone Advisors

This session will help you to identify the tasks within your aviation operation that are not clearly defined. You will identify the key processes within every functional group within your flight department and understand how “core process” documents define what gets done. Learn how to create “operating process” documents that describe how things get done and explore the use of process templates – which includes flow maps, narratives describing the processes, clear identification of process owners, and the means to measure the effectiveness of your major processes. Learn about the need for well-architected electronic document management systems and become familiar with techniques to measure, review, and optimize all processes for maximum efficiency.

              CTI
Education Track: Airspace and Airport Access
              Presented by: Jim McClay, NBAA

When you start your shift you likely follow a checklist to make sure you are prepared for all of your department’s aircraft movements that day. If spending 20 minutes at the start of each shift is not also spent familiarizing yourself with the current status of the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS) then you need to attend this session. An NBAA Air Traffic Services professional will instruct you on how to read and interpret the FAA’s airspace and airport status page known as the OIS (Operational Information system). This website is an important tool for every scheduler and flight operations personnel to use so you can proactively deal with airspace constraints and airport-specific delays. The proactive scheduler can predict potential trouble spots which can directly reduce delays to their operation that day.

This session will empower all operations personnel and in particular those that do not use trained flight attendants. This is a session that will teach you how to secure “safe” catering globally, and the ways to keep it safe.
