Keynote Speakers & Award Winners

Magic Johnson The Day One Keynote featured an energetic presentation by Earvin “Magic” Johnson. The basketball superstar, accomplished entrepreneur and humanitarian discussed the importance of business aviation throughout his storied career.		Magic Johnson The three-time MVP who played in nine National Basketball Association (NBA) finals and CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises, an investment conglomerate valued at an estimated $1 billion dollars.
Ross Perot, Jr. Pilot, businessman and aviation champion Ross Perot, Jr. accepts NBAA’s Meritorious Service to Aviation Award from the association’s president and CEO Ed Bolen.		Ross Perot, Jr. Perot, a U.S. Air Force veteran who made history with a 30-day trip around the world in a Bell single-turbine helicopter, was recognized for a life of service to aviation, including leading the charge toward urban air mobility (UAM) through his partnership with Uber Elevate.
Steuart Walton Walmart Director Steuart L. Walton, also founder and chairman of aerobatic aircraft manufacturer Game Composites, delivers his keynote address.		Sky Dayton Keynote speaker Sky Dayton, tech entrepreneur and Earthlink founder, has continued to help build companies that have propelled the internet and other exciting technologies into our everyday lives, most recently as an investor in UAM developer Joby Aviation.
Keynote Session The audience watches Ed Bolen interview Sky Dayton, who founded EarthLink in 1994 at the age of 23 which grew to serve millions of consumers and helped usher in the Internet revolution.		Barrington Irving Jr. At the Day 2 Keynote, Ed Bolen presented Irving with the 2019 NBAA American Spirit Award, which recognizes courage, pursuit of excellence and service to others and the aviation community.
Barrington Irving Jr. Irving, who in 2007 became the youngest pilot to fly solo around the work in a single-engine airplane, is a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and recipient of NBAA’s Top 40 Under 40 honor.		Eric Allison At the Day 2 Keynote, Allison, head of Uber Elevate, spoke with attendees about his company’s goals of creating a multimodal aerial rideshare, an automation platform, electric aircraft and connected skyports in partnership with other industry players.
Gen. Lloyd “Fig” Newton & Maj. Gen. Jeannie M. Leavitt Leavitt, the first female combat pilot in the U.S. Air Force and first woman to lead a combat wing, was interviewed by retired USAF Gen. Newton, the first African American to fly for the Thunderbirds.		Maj. Gen. Jeannie M. Leavitt Leavitt shared with the audience her experience as the first female combat pilot as well as the U.S. Air Force’s current emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
“Jetman” Yves Rossy Rossy closed the Day 2 Keynote session with his journey to what seems impossible – a man flying without a vehicle.		“Jetman” Yves Rossy Rossy developed the jet engine-powered wing that allows him to fly without a vehicle, using small body movements to change his direction.

Las Vegas Civic and Business Leaders Steve Hill, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Ed Bolen, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen and Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft welcomed the first-time availability of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) at Henderson Executive Airport (HND) as part of the event’s aircraft display.		No Plane No Gain Media Kick-Off Breakfast NBAA Chairman Gen. Lloyd “Fig” Newton, GAMA Chairman Mark Burns, GAMA President and CEO Pete Bunce and NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen discuss the issues facing the industry with media representatives and reaffirm the importance of general aviation.
Tom Horne At the No Plane No Gain Media Kick-Off Breakfast, NBAA Chairman Gen. Lloyd “Fig” Newton presented Horne, editor of the Turbine Edition of AOPA Pilot magazine, with the David W. Ewald Platinum Wing Award for his lifetime achievement in journalism.		James Wynbrandt The association also bestowed the Gold Wing Award for Journalism Excellence upon James Wynbrandt for his article on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at the No Plane No Gain Media Kick-Off Breakfast, on Oct. 22 in Las Vegas.
Inaugural New Product Showcase Innovative new business aviation products received a special spotlight during the New Product Showcase, a first-time event that brought tremendous energy to the opening day of NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE).		Business Aviation Top 40 Under 40 Rising leaders from across the world who bring fresh ideas and valuable perspectives to business aviation were recognized at the Young Professionals in Business Aviation (YoPro) Networking Reception on Oct. 22.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel Panel Session Presenters of the “I Want My SAF” industry leaders panel include Gurhan Andac, GE Aviation; Pete Bunce, GAMA; David Coleal, Bombardier Aviation; John Hattfield, Cox Enterprises; Gene Holloway, Chief Sustainability Officer, Aerion Supersonic; Kevin Welsh, FAA and was moderated by Raquel Rodriguez, NBAA TV.

Uber Air On display in the LVCC is the Uber Air concept. Uber is developing shared air transportation—planned for 2023—between suburbs and cities, and ultimately within cities.
