The aviation industry has always held safety at its core, and many business aviation operators have well-established safety management systems (SMS). It’s clear that SMSs are here to stay. The NTSB has for years recommended that operators implement an SMS and incorporated this recommendation into its Most Wanted List of transportation improvements in 2019. Similarly, the FAA has indicated its continued support for SMS by, among other things, revealing its rulemaking plans to require SMS for “persons engaged in the design and production of aircraft, engines, or propellers; certificate holders that conduct common carriage operations under part 135; persons engaged in maintaining part 121 aircraft under part 145; and persons conducting certain, specific types of air tour operations under part 91.” Join this session to learn more about the push for aviation organizations to implement an SMS and how your organization will be affected, what makes them work well, and where SMSs failed to prevent an accident; and share your perspectives with policy-makers on the ways to implement SMSs most effective for business aviation organizations.
