Defining Leadership

Get an overview of leadership theory and styles. This module examines good and bad characteristics of leadership, and reviews some theories and models of leadership and how they might apply to individual participants. Participants will learn a definition of leadership that will be used throughout the course. Even experienced leaders will gain insight as the emphasis is on how leadership skills can be applied to their unique situation. Additionally, participants will review their own leadership styles profile.

The Art of Not Motivating

Rather than suggesting ways to motivate team members, this module concentrates on how leaders can create a motivational environment to help team members realize the needs that actually motivate them. After a review of motivational theory, the module presents a unique model that is proven to create the motivational environment

Coaching and Mentoring

All leaders are coaches, at least to some extent. But are they also mentors? This module examines the difference between coaching and mentoring and provides skills and techniques that can be used in either case.

Building and Leading Effective Teams

Whether building new teams or striving to improve current teams, leaders need an understanding of how teams are formed and develop. This module uses a team scenario to examine the life cycle of teams. Discussion centers on how participants can best affect the various stages of team development. There is also discussion about conflict in teams.

Diversity, Equity and the Team Leader

Today’s teams are more diverse than ever before and leaders must demand inclusion and fair treatment. This course provides leaders with ideas that will help them make their diverse teams more inclusive and therefore, more effective.

What is Ethical?

Ethics is a subject often discussed, yet seldom really understood. Companies expect their leaders to conduct themselves in an ethical manner, but what does that mean? This module looks at what ethics are and how supervisors and managers can lead in an ethical manner.

Gaining Expertise

A leader is expected to help team members grow, but what about the leader’s development? This module examines various ways a leader can set themselves up for success, including managing a network of contacts.

Change Management

Attendees will examine ways to recognize change, advocate for change and implement both directed change and their own ideas for improvement. They will also explore ways to effectively manage crisis.

Getting Your Point Across

Communication is one of the primary issues leaders face. This module addresses some basic communication techniques, then introduces a different way to address communication difficulties.

Personal Leadership Philosophy

This is the capstone of the course. Participants put the various skills together to create their own Personal Leadership Philosophy which is a roadmap to more success as a team leader.
