Attendees with Disabilities

NBAA will provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities who make their situations known to NBAA personnel. Reasonable accommodations are those that do not create an undue hardship on NBAA, change the nature of scheduled events or activities, or pose a safety or health threat to other attendees.

For safety reasons, only officially-approved vehicles are permitted to operate within the exhibit hall at the Charlotte Convention Center (CCC). CCC only allows powered wheelchairs, scooters, and Segways for people with disabilities as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and as long as they can be operated safely in the venue. It is the policy of NBAA that these vehicles be specifically used for handicapped individuals and exhibit the stability required to operate around exhibits.

Service Animals

Only service animals are allowed at the Charlotte Convention Center. Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The tasks performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. Public entities must allow miniature horses to accompany people with disabilities where “reasonable.” Four factors may be used to determine what is reasonable:

  • The miniature horse is housebroken.
  • The miniature horse is under the owner’s control.
  • The facility can accommodate the miniature horse’s type, size, and weight.
  • The miniature horse does not compromise legitimate, necessary safety requirements.

Emotional support, therapy, comfort or companion animals are not considered service animals under the ADA. These terms are used to describe animals that provide comfort just by being with a person. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task, they do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
