When business aircraft operators need to evaluate employee salaries, make hiring decisions or benchmark their flight department payroll against industry peers, they turn to the industry’s most comprehensive salary and benefits review: the annual NBAA Compensation Survey*.

The 2016 survey results, available only to NBAA members, include data compiled from more than 3,700 salaries representing more than 700 member companies, ranging from single-aircraft operations to large flight departments. Salary and benefit data is broken down by 16 common aviation job descriptions and numerous other categories including number of aircraft, department size, location, employee tenure and more.

NBAA has taken a further step with this year’s survey by conducting an internal audit of submitted salary data. This audit involved direct contact with survey participants, and a 5 percent verification of salary submissions across all job descriptions, holding the data to a specified margin of error.

“This new formal audit ensures the NBAA Compensation Survey continues to set the standard for business aviation salary and benefit reporting,” said Peter Korns, NBAA manager of operations. “It’s yet another layer on top of existing best practices we follow to provide the essential information our members rely on to make important business decisions.”

Survey data was collected earlier this year through voluntary submissions by NBAA member companies, who receive free access to the survey results for their participation (non-participant members can pay $250 to access the results). To be eligible for participation, member companies must operate at least one aircraft, fall under Part 91 and have full-time employees.

*Only Member Representatives and designated alternates within a company can purchase access to Compensation Survey results.
