A newly added online course offered through NBAA’s Professional Development Program (PDP) allows operators to learn more about the International Standards for Business Aviation Operations (IS-BAO) on their schedule.
Held in partnership between the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and NBAA, the Fundamentals of IS-BAO online workshop will foster a deeper understanding of the importance of a well-developed safety management system (SMS) and the role of SMS in IS-BAO certification, and provide guidance to flight departments to confidently begin implementation of IS-BAO, prepare for a registration audit or attain a higher IS-BAO certification level.
“We initially planned to hold an in-person workshop earlier this year,” explained Molly Hitch, NBAA manager for professional development. “While the COVID-19 crisis threw a wrench in those plans, we’ve developed this online course to present important information toward understanding and implementing IS-BAO at your flight operation, whether you fly domestically or internationally.”
Presented by IBAC Operations Manager Kathleen Hilst, the course includes an overview of the IS-BAO program structure and its relation to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards; examinations of SMS and IS-BAO standards and practices; and implementation and audit considerations.
Hitch emphasized participants may take the five-hour course at their convenience.
“This program is designed to offer attendees the flexibility to progress at their own pace, which is an important consideration for those who are just getting back to flying and may not have time to complete it in one sitting,” she said.
The course is available to NBAA members at a one-time fee of $685, and completion may be applied for Operations credit under the Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) program. Hitch added that other online PDP offerings are under consideration in the months ahead to further assist members with their professional development and provide additional recertification opportunities for CAMs.
