Business aircraft often fly to smaller airports surrounded by high terrain, encroaching airspace or other obstacles. The recent introduction of FMS-Guided Visual (FGV) Approaches, which utilize an aircraft’s flight management system to navigate through additional charted waypoints on a visual approach, can bring added safety and stability when landing at more challenging airfields. “These [approaches] provide lateral and vertical guidance all the way to short final,” explains Charlie Precourt, chairman of the Citation Jet Pilots Association Safety Committee. “That takes a lot of the guesswork out of setting up a visual approach.”
In this episode of NBAA’s “Flight Plan,” host Rob Finfrock speaks with:
Mark McIntyre, CAM Fellow, member of NBAA’s Board of Directors and director for a large Part 91 flight operation
Charlie Precourt, chairman of the Citation Jet Pilots Association Safety Committee
