The deployment of ADS-B has created challenges for aircraft operators concerned about their privacy, but the Limited Aircraft Data Displayed (LADD) and Privacy ICAO Address (PIA) programs can help shield aircraft and operator data from prying eyes on the Internet. “If [flight tracking] data is derived in any way from the FAA, then that flight tracking service is obliged to comply with blocking requests from operators [under LADD],” says NBAA’s Doug Carr. However, tracking services that receive data through independent networks of hobbyist ADS-B receiver antennas, “are not subject to blocking requests that we have worked with the FAA to create,” requiring operators to submit a PIA request to guard their anonymity.
In this episode of NBAA’s Flight Plan, host Rob Finfrock speaks with:

- Heidi Williams, NBAA senior director, air traffic services and infrastructure
