With freezing temperatures and snow having already been experienced in some parts of the country, business aircraft operators must once again implement plans for combatting winter’s effects on their operations. “Every flight department is unique,” notes pilot Ryan Retelle. “Some flight departments will coordinate with the [flight] crew ahead of time and perhaps anti-ice the aircraft in the hangar so that it has that Type 4 [fluid] on the surfaces before it gets pushed out into active ground-icing conditions. Or it could just be as straightforward as taking items off the airplane and having a place to store them [to avoid freezing].”
In this episode of NBAA’s “Flight Plan,” host Rob Finfrock speaks with:
- Chris Behn, manager of global aviation maintenance, John Deere
- Ed Mursko, maintenance manager, 3M Aviation
- Ryan Retelle, subject matter expert, Advanced Aircrew Academy
The NBAA Flight Plan podcast, which ran from 2009 to 2025, provided an overview of important developments affecting NBAA members, and the association’s work to advocate for their interest. The archive of past episodes will remain available for your enjoyment. Please note that no new episodes will be released.
