NBAA Chief Operating Officer Steve Brown was in Santa Monica, CA last week to talk with stakeholders about the recent agreement to close Santa Monica Municipal Airport (SMO) in 2028, and shorten the runway in the near future. “Everyone’s concerned about the future of the airport,” he said, adding that the runway shortening would impact NBAA members with larger to mid-sized turbine aircraft. The association, Brown said, is examining legal options with regard to SMO. “We’re looking at it as a unique case. We don’t think it has any spillover effects to any other airports around the country, but we are very focused on making sure that this airport is as available, open and accessible to the aviation community as possible in the future,” he said.
