The year included several flashpoint moments in which long-time advocates for air traffic control privatization resurfaced calls for the U.S. to emulate other countries’ flawed privatized ATC models. Veteran Aviators Emphasize the Need for Go-Around Preparedness
In a year that put flight safety in sharp focus, NBAA responded with a host of new resources highlighting safety best practices, and encouraging new ways of thinking about incident and accident avoidance. As one example, this popular video shows why the best pilots treat every approach as if it could end in a go-around – an especially important philosophy for responding to unclear ATC instructions, challenging wind conditions, unusual traffic patterns or unstabilized approaches – so that go-around readiness becomes second nature. In Hurricane’s Devastating Wake, Business Aviation Provided Critical Support
Who could forget the indelible imagery featured in this year’s global news coverage revealing Hurricane Melissa’s terrible toll on the island nation of Jamaica? In this moment of crisis – as with countless other natural disasters – business aviation snapped into action, supporting flights to transport doctors and critically needed supplies to victims in need, and continued to do so long after the news crews moved on to other events. This video, taken by Brad Pierce, CEO of Orlando-based Restaurant Equipment World and AERObridge volunteer, took viewers along for one of a number of business aircraft missions that brought help, hope and relief to island residents.
