NBAA marked the passing of Michael W. Hohm, International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) director for liaison to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), who passed away Jan. 11 at age 63.

Hohm played a key role as the business aviation industry representative on the Air Navigation Commission at ICAO, and was responsible for day-to-day relationships with the ICAO secretariat and national delegations to ICAO.

“Michael’s institutional insight and policy expertise helped business aviation achieve several important outcomes affecting growth variants of business aircraft and protections for small emitters under ICAO’s Carbon Offset Reduction Scheme for International Aviation,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “He will be truly missed.”

An ATP-rated pilot who logged 5,800 flight hours as a professional pilot, Hohm servied as a flight instructor at FlightSafety International and then joined Transport Canada as a civil aviation inspector, later becoming supervisor of airport policy and standards. He then went to NAV Canada where he spent 13 years as manager of airspace planning and design before going to work at ICAO in Montreal as technical officer, aeronautical information management. Hohm joined IBAC in 2016.

He studied at Simon Fraser University and City University in London, UK.

Hohm is survived by his wife Christine Saint John. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to the McGill University Health Centre or the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital. Learn more about making a donation in Hohm’s name.
