Navigable airspace is being threatened all around the country with the net effect of decreasing access for aviation operations. Everything from microwave towers, to office buildings to wind turbines are being built in ever increasing numbers, many near airports. Uncontrolled tree growth next to airports is even an issue affecting aviation access.
FAA has developed a web based tool to help defend against further encroachment of obstacles on navigable airspace. The Obstruction Evaluation/Airport Airspace Analysis (OE/AAA) web site allows anyone in the public to become familiar with any proposed construction that may affect airspace at an airport they are interested in. By registering on the site, you can sign up to receive automatic email notifications of proposed construction that would affect an airport or necessitate a change in aeronautical operations or procedures. These notifications can be targeted for specific states or airports. These “circularized cases” are cases where the FAA solicits input from the public.
To search for OE/AAA database for obstacles within a specified radius, use the Circle Search for Airports form.
Aircraft operators are encouraged to review the OE/AAA web site and submit comments to the FAA for circularized cases. If you have additional questions and concerns about obstacles, or if your local group or association is interested in signing up for OE/AAA notifications, please contact NBAA’s Access Committee at obstacles@nbaa.org.
