Washington, DC, October 4, 2010 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today announced that Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Chief Counsel David Grizzle will give the keynote address at the Association’s Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference, October 17 to 18 in Atlanta, GA.
“As the FAA’s chief counsel, David Grizzle has a particular insight into where the agency is headed in the next several years,” said NBAA’s Mike Nichols, vice president, operations, education & economics. “His perspective on FAA policy and rulemaking initiatives, and on how FAA offices interface with users, will be very valuable to this community.”
Before joining the FAA, Grizzle held several executive positions at Continental Airlines, including general counsel and senior vice president, customer experience. During a 14-month leave of absence from Continental starting in 2004, Grizzle served as a senior State Department attaché in Kabul, Afghanistan, coordinating high-level transportation and infrastructure projects.
At NBAA’s Tax, Regulatory & Risk Management Conference, Grizzle will address representatives of flight departments, charter operations, management companies and their legal and financial advisers seeking the latest updates on changes in the regulatory and tax environment.
“The regulatory landscape changes all the time,” said Nichols. “New rules are written, but also federal agencies’ guidance on those rules and policy interpretations are constantly revised. If you’re not up to date, you can run afoul or miss an opportunity to save your company money.”
This year’s conference will cover several opportunities to save money by taking advantage of recent tax developments, including the federal law signed last month allowing for “bonus depreciation” or accelerated recovery of assets such as business aircraft.
The program features a session titled “What’s New at the IRS” that will cover bonus depreciation as well as passive activity rules and excise taxes. Other tax sessions will explore different states’ aircraft sales taxes, IRS audits and tax consequences of operating leases.
Many more sessions will address timely regulatory and risk management issues. NBAA Tax Committee Chairman Ed Kammerer, who has authored several tax and regulatory resources available on NBAA’s web site, will present a session titled “Ethical Issues and Dilemmas in Aircraft Transactions.” The program also includes sessions on aircraft registration, federal regulations affecting charter operations and airport noise restrictions.
