Washington, DC, September 10, 2002 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has selected five students enrolled at NBAA/University Aviation Association-member institutions to receive Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarships. Gregory J. Peterson of the University of North Dakota, David W. Robinson of Middle Tennessee State University, Elliott S. Taub of Ohio University, Susan R. Wilkinson of Oklahoma State University and Joshua A. Williamson of Southern Illinois University each will receive $5,000.
The Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarship was created in 2001 by NBAA and the family and friends of the late Lawrence Ginocchio to honor his outstanding personal contribution to the business aviation community. Named for a remarkable man whose strength of character inspired a high standard of caring in the aviation community, the Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarship recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated honesty, integrity and selflessness in their dealings with others. These individuals should possess a passion for aviation, as Larry Ginocchio did, and have utilized their interest or involvement in business aviation to enhance the lives of others.
Gregory Peterson of Grand Forks, ND is an honor student at the University of North Dakota pursuing his B.A. of science in commercial aviation. He has work experience as a flight instructor, flight operations intern and assistant aircraft mechanic/linecrew member. Peterson is a certified flight instructor and a commercial pilot with instrument and single- and multi-engine ratings and more than 640 total flight hours. He expects to graduate in May 2003.
David Robinson of Murfreesboro, TN is an honor student at Middle Tennessee State University who expects to graduate in August 2004. He is a certified flight instructor and a commercial pilot with instrument and multi-engine ratings.
Elliott Taub of Beachwood, OH is a dean’s list student at Ohio University in Athens, OH. He expects to graduate in June 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical science (flight option) and a minor in business administration. With about 275 total flight hours, Taub holds private pilot and commercial pilot certificates with instrument and multi-engine ratings as well as a first-class medical certificate. His job experience includes work as a copilot with Ohio University Air Transportation.
Dean’s list student Susan Wilkinson of Bartlesville, OK is pursuing her B.S. in aviation sciences with a focus on aviation management at Oklahoma State University and expects to graduate in May 2004. She also holds an Associate’s degree in applied science.
Dean’s list student Joshua Williamson of Louisville, KY holds an A.A.S. in aviation flight and is pursuing his B.S. in aviation management at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale; he expects to graduate in December 2002. With more than 300 total flight hours, Williamson is a certified flight instructor who holds a commercial pilot certificate (instrument, ASEL, AMEL) and second-class medical certificate. His past employment experience includes a flight operations internship with American Airlines.
