Washington, DC, September 30, 2004 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is pleased to announce that J.E. “Sandy” Murdock will join the Staff on October 18 as senior vice president of administration and general counsel.

“I have known and worked closely with Sandy for nearly a decade,” noted NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “He is a top-notch aviation lawyer and is highly respected in policy circles. I think he will be a great addition to our Staff.”

Murdock was chief counsel of the FAA during the Reagan Administration. In that capacity, he supervised all regulatory, enforcement, legislative, litigation and related matters; certification problems; airline civil penalty cases; airport environmental/access issues; and a wide range of other concerns. During 1984–85, Murdock assumed the position of acting FAA deputy administrator, where he managed the agency’s senior executives and worked closely with Capitol Hill and the office of the secretary of transportation.

In 1985, Murdock returned to private practice, representing foreign and U.S. airlines, airports, aircraft and power plant manufacturers, repair stations, aviation trade associations (including NBAA), airport contractors and other aviation concerns. In 2000 and 2001, he served on President Bush’s Transition Advisory Team on transportation issues. Murdock is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Illinois.

NBAA represents the aviation interests of more than 7,700 companies that own or operate general aviation aircraft as an aid to the conduct of their business, or are involved with business aviation. NBAA Member Companies earn annual revenues approaching $5 trillion — a number that is about half the gross domestic product — and employ more than 19 million people worldwide. The NBAA Annual Meeting & Convention is the world’s largest display of civil aviation products and services.
