Washington, DC, June 26, 2002 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is pleased to announce the introduction of the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO). IS-BAO is a code of best practice developed by the industry, for the benefit of the industry.

The standard has been under development for two years by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and its member associations. Flight departments from all over the world participated at various times in focus groups tasked with reviewing the concept and refining the code so that it represents the experiences of good operators and regulatory requirements as reflected in the Standards and Recommended Practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (Annex 6 Part II – International General Aviation Operations).

IBAC represents the interests of business aviation internationally. It is a Council formed by national and regional business aviation associations, which in turn represent business aviation in their respective countries. NBAA is an active Member of IBAC and participated in the development of the international standard.

Complementing the IS-BAO are generic company operations manuals (GCOMs), templates that will help flight departments develop their own company operations manuals (COMs). GCOMs are available in a regular version, a format familiar to most non-European countries, and a JAR OPS version for flight departments in Europe. Optional formatting and a custom, flight-bag size (5.5 inches by 8.5 inches) COM binder also are available.

U.S.-based companies may purchase copies of the IS-BAO and GCOMs along with a CD-ROM containing the various GCOM options by downloading an order form from the NBAA web site at www.nbaa.org/ops/is-bao or by contacting NBAA’s Marie Wilkins at (202) 783-9252 or mwilkins@nbaa.org.

For more information about IS-BAO, contact NBAA’s Bill Stine at (202) 783-9256 or bstine@nbaa.org, IBAC’s Donald Spruston at (613) 260-2848, or IBAC’s Ray Rohr at (780) 915-6972.

NBAA represents the aviation interests of more than 7,100 companies which own or operate general aviation aircraft as an aid to the conduct of their business, or are involved with business aviation. NBAA Member Companies earn annual revenues approaching $5 trillion — a number that is about half the gross domestic product — and employ more than 19 million people worldwide. The NBAA Annual Meeting & Convention is the world’s largest display of civil aviation products and services.
