NBAA Announces Recipients of UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship

Washington, DC, April 22, 2002 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has awarded a total of $5,000 in scholarship funds to five students who seek to advance their professional development. The winners of the 2001 NBAA UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship are: William Peter Groth, Angela LaClair, Stephanie Lewis, Stephanie Pfister and Amanda Yankow. Each student will receive $1,000.

William Groth is a junior at Purdue University majoring in aviation flight technology. He is a certified flight instructor-instrument and a member of the University Flight Team.

Angela LaClair is a senior at Arizona State University majoring in aeronautical management technology-flight systems management. She also holds a commercial pilot-instrument rating and is a hospital surgical support technician and freelance journalist.

Stephanie Lewis is a junior at the University of Nebraska at Omaha majoring in public administration and aviation administration. She has passed her private pilot exam and is interested in a career in aviation maintenance.

Stephanie Pfister is a senior at Ohio University majoring in aviation flight and holds a commercial pilot-instrument rating. She is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and an intern at Executive Jet, Netjets in Columbus, OH.

Amanda Yankow is a senior at the University of Illinois majoring in aviation human factors and psychology. She holds a commercial pilot-instrument rating.

This scholarship is named for Janice K. Barden, founder of Aviation Personnel International, who has been active in the aviation community for more than 30 years and has served as the NBAA Annual Meeting & Convention Local Committee Chairman seven times, more than any other person in Association history. NBAA annually awards a total of $5,000 to five undergraduates studying aviation-related curricula at NBAA and University Aviation Association (UAA) member institutions.
