NBAA Board of Directors Elects Its Officers; George Saling Is NBAA’s New Chairman

Washington, DC, November 2, 2001 – Election of officers for two-year terms took place at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Board of Directors Meeting on October 31 at NBAA’s Washington Headquarters. The NBAA Board elected George A. Saling of Philip Morris Management Corp. to serve as the Association’s Chairman of the Board and Donald E. Baldwin of The Coca Cola Company to serve as Vice Chairman. Kenneth E. Emerick of GM Worldwide Travel Services, who had been elected in June 2001 as Treasurer-elect, assumed his term as Treasurer. Philip A. Roberts of PAR Travel Tech, Inc. will continue to serve on the Board’s Executive Committee in the position of Immediate Past Chairman. In addition, NBAA President John W. Olcott and Corporate Secretary Lise S. Margin were reelected as officers.

NBAA Chairman George A. Saling assumed his current position as vice president, aviation and travel services for Philip Morris Management Corp. in October 2000. He is responsible for providing worldwide aviation and commercial travel support for all of the Philip Morris operating divisions. Prior to joining Philip Morris in 1991, Saling spent more than 17 years in various management positions with FlightSafety International, GTE Service Corp and Tenneco Inc. He is rated on the Gulfstream IV, Canadair Challenger 600/601, Lockheed Jetstar II, Dassault Falcon 20 and DC-3. After graduating from Ohio University in 1968, he began active duty in the U.S. Army; during 1970 and 1971, he served as a combat flight platoon leader in Vietnam flying O-1 Birdogs.

NBAA Vice Chairman Donald E. Baldwin was recruited to work for The Coca Cola Company in 2001 as its director, corporate aviation subsequent to retiring from Texaco, Inc. after more than 25 years with that company. He joined Texaco, Inc. in 1974 as a copilot and at retirement was its manager of aviation transport services. Baldwin is a graduate of Wilmington College and the Darden School at the University of Virginia. In serving on the NBAA Board, he follows in the footsteps of his father, Donald A. Baldwin, who likewise worked for Texaco, Inc.’s flight department and was an NBAA Board Member from 1968 to 1978, when he retired from Texaco. In the past, Baldwin has served the Association as Chairman of its Industry Affairs Committee and a member of its Corporate Aviation Management Committee.

NBAA Treasurer Kenneth E. Emerick was first appointed to the NBAA Board in January 2000 to fill a vacancy and was elected to the Board for a three-year term in October 2000. He is director of aviation for GM Worldwide Travel Services, a company he joined early in his career after graduating from Wayne State University. He served as Chairman of the NBAA Corporate Aviation Management Committee for three years.
