Washington, DC, June 6, 2013 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is pleased to announce that NBAA Chief Operating Officer Steve Brown has been recognized by RTCA with the 2013 Chairman’s Award, the organization’s highest honor. Brown received the award June 5 at the RTCA 2013 Global Aviation Symposium in Washington, DC.

In announcing the award, RTCA President Margaret Jenny praised Brown’s diverse background in the aviation industry, as well as his levelheaded approach to working with personnel from across the industry on a variety of challenges.

“No matter where he sat, Steve has been seen by virtually everyone at the table as a calm, thoughtful voice of reason, listening to all sides and willing to compromise to find a win-win solution to some of the most vexing problems,” Jenny added. “No matter how heated a discussion would get, Steve always maintains his cool demeanor and helps bring the group around to a reasoned solution.”

The RTCA Chairman’s Award recognizes an individual’s longstanding contributions toward promoting RTCA’s goals in its work on new policies and technologies affecting the aviation community. Brown’s work with the organization spans more than 20 years, including participation on the RTCA Policy Board, the Free Flight Steering Committee, and as subcommittee co-chair on the NextGen Advisory Committee.

“Throughout his extensive aviation career, Steve has presented a clear voice fostering collaboration and consensus on some of the most difficult challenges facing the industry,” noted NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We are proud to benefit from this vast expertise at NBAA, and are happy to see Steve recognized with the RTCA Chairman’s Award for his role in many of the industry efforts working to advance aviation in the 21st century.”

Prior to joining NBAA in 2004, Brown worked for six years with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and before that served as president of the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) and as senior vice president for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).

A graduate of the executive management programs at the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Virginia, Brown is also an accredited accident investigator certified by the University of Southern California, and has taught a number of aviation-related courses as a faculty member at Texas A&M University.
