Washington, DC, July 26, 2011 – National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) President and CEO Ed Bolen today made the following statement upon learning that Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chairman Tom Poberezny announced his retirement following a decades-long career with EAA.

“During his tenure in the left seat of EAA, Tom Poberezny has effectively translated his passion for aviation into a remarkable legacy of success. The growth of AirVenture, the rise of the Young Eagles program, and the significance of the Museum reflect Tom’s vision, energy and tenacity. As an airshow performer with the Red Devils, Tom demonstrated that he was one of the best aerobatic pilots in the world, and a primary contributor to a precision team. As the leader of EAA, he demonstrated he was one of the best association executives in the world, and primary contributor a broader industry team. NBAA has enjoyed a very close relationship with EAA for many years; in fact, NBAA’s Board of Directors has held quarterly meetings at EAA on multiple occasions. And on a personal level, Tom has been a friend and mentor. I wish Tom and his wife Sharon all the best.”

According to EAA’s web site, Poberezny assumed the top post at EAA when his father, Paul, retired in 1989. In addition to his position as chairman for the association, Tom Poberezny also served as chairman of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. His responsibilities will be assumed by Rod Hightower, the association’s president and CEO.
