WASHINGTON, DC, March 1, 2007 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today issued a call to action to the general aviation community that uses Centennial Airport (APA) in Denver, CO, to voice opposition to a proposal to build a large residential development in what is now a restricted development area around the airport.

The Centennial City Council will meet on Monday, March 5, to vote on a proposal for a pre-annexation agreement that will pave the way for a large residential and commercial development within the noise and operational zone around the airport.

NBAA is urging general aviation users of Centennial Airport to go to its web site at for a list of Centennial City Council members to contact and voice their opposition to the proposal.

“Clearly, the land in close proximity to the airport is restricted for good reason and should remain so,” said NBAA Senior Vice President, Operations Steve Brown. “NBAA encourages general aviation operators who use the airport to take action on this important local issue.”

Two local developers are asking the city of Centennial to rezone an area that is 1,600 feet east of the runways at the airport in order to build a residential community of 1,615 housing units, trails, parks and a retail center. The developers still must petition for annexation of the land.

Centennial Airport officials and Arapahoe County officials strongly oppose the plan on the grounds that it will severely affect the airport’s long-term potential to benefit the city’s economy, and create the environment for noise complaints from residents of the new development.

“This would literally expose thousands of new residents to a lot of noise, and that translates into noise complaints, said NBAA Southwest Regional Representative Steve Hadley. “Eventually, there could be enough opposition that businesses will decide to go elsewhere.”
