Washington, DC, January 23, 2009 – National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) President and CEO Ed Bolen today welcomed the confirmation of Ray LaHood as secretary of the Department of Transportation.

“We congratulate Secretary LaHood, and we look forward to working with him on our industry’s highest priorities,” said Bolen. “We have reached out to the secretary, and we are confident that he and his staff will be eager to hear our ideas about aviation system modernization and other industry concerns.”

LaHood was nominated in December to serve as transportation secretary by then President-elect Obama. His nomination was confirmed yesterday by the U.S. Senate.

Bolen noted that LaHood is a veteran public servant who is recognized in Washington for his bipartisanship and thorough understanding of transportation policy, as demonstrated by his work in the U.S. House of Representatives.

LaHood was first elected in 1994 to represent Illinois’ 18th Congressional District. Prior to that, he served as chief of staff for former House Minority Leader Robert Michel (R-IL).
