Washington, DC, Oct. 7, 2022 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today joined with the global aviation community in welcoming the adoption of a long-term goal for international aviation of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, by governments gathered for the 41st International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly this week in Montreal, Canada.

“The business aviation community has always prioritized measures to enhance the safety and sustainability of flight,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We welcome this significant step taken by ICAO toward further decarbonization, and we will continue to work with our industry partners toward achieving this ambitious goal.”

The business aviation sector is known for its long-standing record on emissions reduction. The industry has continually reduced its carbon footprint over the past several decades, and today accounts for less than 1% of transportation emissions. Looking to the future, the business aviation community stands united behind a Business Aviation Commitment on Climate Change, which establishes a goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, through advances in technology, operational improvements and infrastructure modernization and market-based measures.

The industry works collaboratively, in part through the Business Aviation Coalition for Sustainable Aviation Fuel, toward long-term emissions reduction.
