Washington, DC, October 10, 2000 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is proud to announce that three students in aviation-related collegiate programs have been selected to receive Indiana Business Aviation Association (IBAA)/Professional Development Program (PDP) Scholarships. Michelle Barrett, Brad Borgman and Ronald Ladziak, Jr. each will receive a $1,150 scholarship from IBAA.

Michelle Barrett is a junior at Central Missouri State University and is planning to major in aviation technology with an emphasis in aviation management. She recently has met all the criteria required to become a private pilot and hopes to obtain the certification shortly. Prior to her expected graduation date of 2002, Michelle will work toward obtaining her instrument rating. After graduation, Michelle plans to pursue a Master’s degree in aviation safety while obtaining a commercial pilot’s license and multi-engine land rating. Her career goal is to secure a professional position within a corporate flight department.

Brad Borgman is a senior at Central Missouri State University and is planning to major in aviation technology with the professional flight option. Following graduation, Brad plans to earn a flight instructor certificate that will allow him to gain additional aeronautical experience. In addition to developing flight credentials, he plans to pursue a Master’s degree in aviation safety. Brad has expressed his commitment and desire to fly for a corporate flight department one day.

Ronald Ladziak, Jr. is a senior at Eastern Michigan University and plans to major in aviation management. He has been active in the aviation community for several years and holds both a private pilot’s certificate and an airframe and powerplant mechanic’s license. Ronald’s career goal is to obtain a director of maintenance position within a corporate flight department.

NBAA, in cooperation with the University Aviation Association (UAA), has developed the Professional Development Program to train future flight department leaders. PDP classes currently are available to flight department personnel through a variety of convenient and flexible delivery methods. Established training organizations and educational institutions provide management training courses in several different media, including Internet courses, video courses and seminars.

To be eligible for an IBAA/PDP scholarship, a student must be an undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior enrolled in an aviation-related two-year, four-year, or post-graduate degree program at an institution that offers a PDP-approved course. The applicant also is required to have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. In addition, the applicant is required to submit a resume, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, and an essay of at least 250 words describing his or her interest in an aviation career.

The Indiana Business Aviation Association is made up of corporate members and honorary members with a common goal: to further safety, convenience, advancement and economy of business aviation in Indiana.

NBAA represents the aviation interests of over 6,200 companies which own or operate general aviation aircraft as an aid to the conduct of their business, or are involved with business aviation. NBAA Member Companies earn annual revenues approaching $5 trillion — a number that is about half the gross domestic product — and employ more than 19 million people worldwide. The NBAA Annual Meeting & Convention is the world’s largest display of civil aviation products and services.
