Washington, DC, October 19, 2001 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has selected two students to receive the 2001 NBAA William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship. Andrew M. Wittstrom and Amy E. Marsh each will receive $2,500 to further their education as they pursue careers as aviation maintenance technicians.

Andrew M. Wittstrom is currently enrolled in the Aeronautical Systems Maintenance program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL, where he plans to obtain a degree and an FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license. He has performed well academically and also has been involved in volunteer programs with his church, school and community. After graduation, Wittstrom would like to apply his knowledge to the design and maintenance of current and future aircraft systems. He is enthusiastic about a career as an aircraft maintenance technician and continuing his education in engineering and flying.

In August 2002, Amy E. Marsh will enroll in the A&P Program at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. After graduation from Bob Jones, she plans to work in missionary aviation as an A&P-licensed maintenance technician and aviator in humanitarian efforts. Currently, Marsh is involved in her high school’s honors program and as a musician with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. She has a private pilot’s license and is working on her instrument rating.

This scholarship was named in honor of retired NBAA Staff member William M. Fanning, who was active in maintenance issues during his nearly 20-year tenure at the Association. Through the Fanning Maintenance Scholarship, NBAA annually awards two $2,500 scholarship to applicants who are pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award benefits a student who is currently enrolled in an accredited A&P program at an approved Part 147 school. The second award benefits an individual who is not enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an approved A&P program at the time of application.
